    Exhilarating Reactors

I live on the the Big Island close to a consistent wave that breaks left over a shallow rock reef. So shallow that I lost a fin to it some time ago. Eventually FCS made a single replacement available. This time I attached the now-complete set to a 7'10" Thunderbolt Mid 6, first as a quad and then as a thruster (which I prefer). The Ingleby Mid 6 would be a fantastic surfboard with popsicle sticks for fins. The Reactors added speed and a quick turning radius that I found exhilarating!

Fin break lines and finbox strength

The fins are superb but I modify the mountings in a standard pattern by drilling a leading 4mm hole and cutting slots and break lines to effectively convert them to fcs1 spec. Reason being in all the years of using fcs1 I snapped a few fins on impact but only once tore out a socket and that was a major impact. In the short time I've used fcs2 I've torn out 2 fin boxes on minor impacts - bumping the sand and when the board hit me on a small wave. So now on all our boards I'd hope the fins will snap off instead. I'd like to see stronger fin boxes too. I use a plastic card to protect the board from the rear of the fin when putting them in, the rear always seems to snap against the glass, damaging it. How about extending the top of the fin box to prevent this? Cheers Mike
