When your last name is Florence, and you grow up on Oahu's North Shore, there's not much room to be anything but a maniac. Nate is proof. He's the middle brother between John John and Ivan, and he grew up chasing winter swell with a drive that came straight from that sibling rivalry. In 2018, he took out the Surfline Wave of the Winter, and followed it with a win at Red Bull Cape Fear at Shipsterns in 2019, then backed it up with standout sessions in Tahiti, Mexico, and Indonesia.

Nate skipped the contest circuit and built his name chasing the heaviest waves on the planet instead. He was named Surfer of the Year at the SURFER Big Wave Challenge in Nazaré in 2024, an award he also swept alongside Ride of the Year the year before. He's logged sessions at Cloudbreak, Mullaghmore, and Pipeline that other surfers wouldn't paddle into. Nathan joined the FCS team in 2021, and he's still out chasing every swell that matters, big wave fin strapped in and ready.
