ABOUT

Gabriel Medina was born in São Sebastião, Brazil, in 1993. He started competing at 11, opening with a win at the Rip Curl Grom Search. By 15, he'd already signed with Rip Curl and won the Maresias Surf International as the youngest-ever winner of an open-age pro event. He turned pro on the world tour at 17.

Medina has won three WSL World Titles, in 2014, 2018, and 2021. The first made him the first Brazilian surfer to win a world championship. He's picked up 18 Championship Tour event wins along the way, plus a bronze medal at the 2024 Olympics. He's known for his aerial game and for surfing some of the heaviest waves on tour, including Teahupo'o, his favorite break. Medina surfs with power and precision, and three world titles prove it holds up under pressure.
